How to Setup Vonage Box with Router

Installing Your Vonage Box with Router: In this tutorial, you are going to learn about how to setup Vonage Box with a Router like DLink, Linksys, etc. Before getting started, you need to have the following which is mandatory. First, high-speed Internet connection, a Vonage account, Vonagebox, Phone & cord. The Internet connection would be a DSL or cable. In the case of DSL connection, to establish a Vonage connection it is not necessary to have a router. You can go through these step by step method to setup Vonage box without a Router. But to have a good extended network access, it is recommended to connect the Vonagebox with a compatible router. In this tutorial, we’re going to learn how we can connect the Vonage box with a Router for long distance network access using the cable connection.

The next thing is to have an active Vonage account. If you don’t have a Vonage login account, just do signup at During the account signup of Vonage, fill the details correctly. The third one is a Vonage box which is a must to start using Vonage services like VoIP. This Vonage box comes with a power cord and an Ethernet cable. Lastly, a Phone and cord.

Before we start disconnecting the cables, let’s check to make sure your Internet connection is up and running. Open any web browser and try to browse the Internet by opening any website like If the page renders in no time, then your Internet connection is good and you can proceed to setup Vonage box.

Now take you router and reset it to factory defaults. Most of the network routers have 2 or 4 Ethernet ports on the back. However, it may differ. Please take a look and make sure at least one Ethernet port is available.

Now take the blue Ethernet cable and connect it to the blue port on the back of the Vonage box. The other end of the blue cable should go into the available port on your router.

Now connect the power cord to the Vonage box. Once the box has power, the power lights will blink on or off in several sequences. When the “Phone icon 1” on the Vonage box lights up, connect the Telephone cord to Green Port of #1.

Now pick up your receiver and hear a dial tone. Congratulations! You did all the steps. You can start using Vonage for crystal clear, affordable and reliable phone service.
